Forget starving artist, you're a thriving startup!

Forget starving artist, you're a thriving startup!

Between writing, practice, booking, designing and ordering merch, loading in, performing, loading out, promoting and networking, we're wearing more hats than a CEO! So, why aren't we acting like it? I've listed a few reasons below why you should feel like the big, bad boss that you are!

  • 1. You're a multi-tasking wizard - You can successfully sound check, write a set-list, collect payment, do your hair and Facebook Live all at once.

  • 2. You're a finance ninja - You're working with basically no budget, yet somehow you've used every available resource to create content and convinced all your friends to buy a $10 ticket to party with you. They can't teach that in school.

  • 3. You're an international sensation - The best thing about being a musician? You don't have to learn another language to bring your business across borders because music is a universal language. Awwwww.

  • 4. You're a trendsetter - Forget welcome packets and timed lunches! There is no rulebook for art. You can be, say, and wear whatever you want! AND if you do it with enough conviction, you might just gain a cult following. So, whatever your weird thing is, embrace is and unleash it! This is your world, we're just living in it.

  • 5. The world is your office - As I said before, music is a universal language, which means you can set up shop anywhere. You don't need a desk, sticky notes, or a whiteboard. Be creative and reach out to your favorite bookstore, cafe, or park. Chances are they would love to have live music and might even pay you for it. So get out there, play some music and kick some ass!

Music as a profession is a long, crazy, frustrating and wild ride. The good news is there are plenty of people here to help, all you have to do is ask and believe in yourself.

Thank you for joining Parke Ave and helping build Seattle's network and support for music!
