Indie Artists: 3 Tips To Help Organize Your Workload
The time has come to put the power back in the hands of creatives! But as Spiderman’s grandpa once said, “With great power comes great responsibility.”
We live in an invigorating time where the only thing separating independent artists from major label artists are strategy, time, and money. Here are 3 tips to help you organize your life so you can spend as much time creating as possible.
Nothing will steal more time and energy than a messy bank account. Do you know exactly how much money you have? Do you have a plan for your spending? Do you know when all of your bills are due?
It’s important to start organizing your money early so that you have good practices and don’t get overwhelmed when the numbers start growing. Once you have money, it’s important to know what to spend it on.
Organize your finances! Try using Mint: Budget Tracker & Planner
Create a Plan: What are some big purchases that you need to make/save for? How does that impact your current spending? You can create goals within mint and it will help you create a savings/budget plan.
Watch Youtube Tutorials: Learning finance is NOT easy and if you want to get rich and STAY rich, you need to start understanding the world of stocks, bonds, and real estate. I highly recommend watching this synopsis video of a very famous book, Rich Dad Poor Dad.
Once your money is in order, you can start building your team and if you want to find real success, you have to pay for it (except for playlist placement, don’t pay for that).
Digital Marketing: This will be one of your bigger expenses because you do not want to go with a cheap agency. I highly recommend Social Flutter Co for all things digital.
Mixing/Mastering: There has been a lot of talk regarding artists mixing/mastering their own songs and I do not recommend this. Save that energy and learn how to create your own album artwork instead. A mix/master will determine if someone saves or skips your song so hire a professional. Need help finding a qualified engineer? Post in the Parke Ave community or DM us on IG and we would be happy to make some recommendations.
Virtual Assistants: The easiest way to handle a lot of mundane tasks like scheduling, administrative tasks, and more is to hire a virtual assistant. For this, you can use Fiverr.
This is one of the most overlooked and important tools available to artists. Did you know you can automate scheduling calls? Did you know you can automate your IG posts?
Calendly: Forget spending hours or even days trying to coordinate schedules with people. Set your own availability and let others book time on your calendar.
Planoly: The easiest way to schedule out your IG grid. You can add captions, hashtags, and schedule them to auto-post.
